In order to ensure participants feel safe and comfortable attending our biennial conference, we are rescheduling the conference to May 24-25, 2021.
New registration information will be available in fall 2020.
Join Antioch University New England, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Island Institute for the 2020 Local Solutions: Eastern Climate Preparedness Conference, May 11-12, 2020.
We know that state and local governments are a first line of defense in responding to climate change challenges. In this context, too few state and local governments have adequate research and plans in place and many have identified the need for capacity-building to address the disproportional vulnerability of some populations. For both public safety and fiscal reasons, local and regional governments must plan how to prepare an equitable response to a changing climate and to do so in a way that centers the needs of disenfranchised communities that will be the most heavily impacted.
We have a new vision for the 2020 conference that will transform the existing structure and roll out in an innovative way.
The 2020 Local Solutions conference will empower participants to take action steps that center climate equity. Climate equity ensures that all people have the opportunity to influence and benefit from climate resilience-building solutions. When we achieve climate equity, all communities will have the opportunity to thrive in the face of climate change, and race, ethnicity, income level, gender, and disability or immigration status will not be factors causing disproportionate vulnerability to climate impacts.
Each participant will leave with a list of equity-oriented action steps they will pursue upon returning to their community. The two keynotes and each convening session will provide guidance about how to implement climate resilience with an equity frame.
See you in Portland!
