KCI Philanthropic Trends Workshop 

On January 25, Rose Terzariol and Christoph Clodius, both Vice Presidents with KCI (Ketchum Canada Inc.) will present two perspectives on the issues and trends that are competing for our attention and discuss what charities can do to help steer through these changes.

Canada’s philanthropic marketplace is facing two realities.  On the one hand, it’s business as usual raising funds as best we can through traditional vehicles such as direct mail, major gifts, events, planned giving.  On the other hand there is a profound sense of disruption that is changing everything we do.  Navigating these dual realities will be critical in order for charities to survive and thrive. 

On the talent management side, anticipating and dealing with trends in retention and recruitment are critical to the success of your organization or institution.  For instance, what are the hiring and retention challenges coming from?  How do we engage and motivate current staff to help ensure their excellence and retention?  How can current leaders work proactively to create effective plans for retention of valued employees and the recruitment of top candidates?   What skills, abilities, and qualities do emerging leaders need to build on in order to position themselves for senior leadership positions?   What is happening with equity and ethics in hiring practices?

About Rose & Christoph

In her 14-plus years with KCI, Rose has worked on a wide variety of projects with clients in every non-profit sector including health, hospitals, education, community and social service, environmental and Arts & Culture.  Over the last few years, Rose has worked with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Union Gospel Mission, Vancouver Aquarium, Science World, UBC, Okanagan College, Immigrant Services Society of BC.  On Vancouver Island, she has worked with University of Victoria, Victoria Coolaid Society, AIDS Vancouver Island and Victoria Symphony.  Prior to joining KCI, Rose worked with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation for 13 years in a variety of roles.  She is an active volunteer, and currently sits on the Planned Giving Committee of Big Sisters of the Lower Mainland. She is a sought-after speaker and has presented at AFP, AHP, CASE, CAGP.

Since joining KCI about six years ago, Christoph has led a variety of senior leadership search and talent management assignments.  As a trusted advisor and experienced search leader, clients and candidates alike value Christoph’s strategic thinking, ability to attract strong candidates, client-service focus, and honesty in sharing advice and feedback.  Christoph’s diverse client list includes all manner of organizations including UVic, United Way of Greater Victoria, Tides Canada, MS Society of Canada, BC Cancer Foundation, the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, UBCC, Vancouver Aquarium and many more.  Prior to joining KCI, Christoph spent nearly a dozen years in fundraising and leadership roles with both health/social service and post-secondary education organizations.   As a volunteer, Christoph is a member of the AFP Vancouver Board of Directors, and has been engaged in the community through Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports, the Immigrant Services Society, and several roles at CJSF Radio, SFU’s campus-community radio station.
