Enjoy an evening of stories and music with playwright, actor, comedian, storyteller Kevin Kling, and chanteuse Prudence Johnson in Linden Hills. Kevin and Pru will perform in an intimate setting with an audience of about 100 guests in support of Linden Hills Power and Light.

Join your friends and neighbors for a night of laughs in support of a great cause. Linden Hills Power and Light is a neighborhood-based organization aiming to shrink our local carbon footprint through education, community engagement and action.  We promote sustainable energy, waste reduction and energy conservation. LHP&L has spearheaded the residential curbside composting program for 1260 households; helped over 250 homes become more energy efficient with the Community Energy Services program and assisted 17 neighborhood businesses and 5 schools recycle their organic waste. We do a lot more too! Come out and support our continued efforts while enjoying a great show and silent auction!

Kevin Kling, best known for his popular commentaries on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and his storytelling stage shows like Tales from the Charred Underbelly of the Yule Log, delivers hilarious, often tender stories.  Kling’s autobiographical tales are as enchanting as they are true to life: hopping freight trains, getting hit by lightning, performing his banned play in Czechoslovakia, growing up in Minnesota, and eating things before knowing what they are.

Kevin Kling describes his zodiac sign as “Minnesota with Iowa rising…” He grew up in Osseo, a Minneapolis suburb, and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater. His storytelling started when a friend from the now defunct Brass Tacks Theatre asked him to perform his stories. Since then, he has been awarded numerous arts grants and fellowships. The National Endowment for the Arts, The McKnight Foundation, The Minnesota State Arts Board, The Bush Foundation, The Jerome Foundation and others have recognized Kling’s artistry.

Prudence Johnson's career has taken her from honky-tonks to Carnegie Hall, from the theater stage to the Silver Screen, from the Midwest to the Middle East. She is a regular guest on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, broadcast on National Public Radio stations across the country, and appears as one of the "regulars" in Robert Altman’s 2006  A Prairie Home Companion movie. Her film credits also include Robert Redford’s A River Runs Through It in a role she was born to play-a singer!

With her roots in folk and country music, Prudence developed a passion for jazz and the work of the 20th century's great songwriters when she met guitarist Tim Sparks, with whom she co-founded the vocal jazz group Rio Nido. A decade and three albums later, she ventured out on her own and turned again to the music of her roots, making three records for the folk label Red House includingSongs of Greg Brown and Little Dreamer, a collection of international lullabies. Prudence lives in Minneapolis and is working on a play and a few new recording projects, enjoying her work with A Prairie Home Companion, and having a wonderful time bringing the music she loves to new audiences.
