The Women Helping Women luncheon has been sponsored by the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center since 1999, raising over $350,000 to provide counseling for women and girls with limited resources. The Center was established in 1972 and is now one of the largest counseling groups in central Iowa, serving over 2,200 clients annually.

"Finding the Light Within"
 Sandy Hatfield Clubb
 Director of Athletics, Drake University

Sandy has achieved remarkable success in the classroom and in the field of play during her career in university athletics administration, but she has traveled a long road to attain these accomplishments. She will share the inspiring story of her journey from near high school dropout to first female Division 1 athletic director in Iowa.

Sandy came to Drake University in 2006 as the 16th athletic director in the institution’s history. During her tenure, she has led the athletic department through a transformation that has impacted all areas of athletics and the student-athlete experience. 

A graduate of the the University of Texas - El Paso, Sandy earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in education. She then joined Arizona State University as a management intern and spent the next 16 years rising through the ranks to senior associate director of athletics. While at ASU, she created a life skills program for student-athletes that is recognized nationally as a Program of Excellence.

Actively involved in the Des Moines community, Sandy serves on the boards of directors for the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines and Character Counts in Iowa.

  

Honoring  Connie Wimer 

This year’s event honors Connie Wimer, owner and Chairman of Business Publications Corporation, for her steadfast commitment to supporting and promoting women from all walks and stages of life.

Connie was born in Merrill, Iowa, and attended Morningside College. She moved to Des Moines in 1950, where she built her reputation as a respected, successful and visionary businessperson, who has willingly mentored and coached scores of emerging leaders in the area.

In addition to overseeing her publishing business, Connie sits on numerous local, state and national business and charitable boards. She was the first woman to chair the Des Moines Chamber Federation and the first woman elected to the Greater Des Moines Committee’s Business Hall of Fame. Connie is also the founder of a number of community events including Winefest Des Moines, Women of Influence, and Forty under 40.
