In this six-week online class, we focus on journal writing as a spiritual practice that mines our daily lives in the search for a deeper understanding of what it means to be human.
Writing as a spiritual practice is a centuries-old tradition that can help ground, sustain, and enhance our lives as people of faith. The process may plunge us into the depths of mystery; capture new insights into our faith; explore the terrain of our spiritual history; and, lead us forward as we strengthen our bond with the Creator. Employing a vairety of approaches to keep our writing fresh, we explore both the shadow side of the human spirit as well as the side that radiates joy and light. In addition, we develop ways that we might utilize journal writing as a spiritual practice within a congregational setting.
The class will begin online on Monday, Nov. 21 and run through the week of Jan. 9, 2017. Participants in the Certificate in Spirituality & the Arts for Spiritual and Religious Leaders can take this class as an elective. Community members can take the class for $75 and seminary students for $25.
