Our Paint Shake Brings Multi-Tech to the Yard: Multidisciplinary Approach to Product Benchmarking

Almost all modern products require expertise from multiple engineering disciplines. This is especially true as products become more technologically sophisticated.  Therefore, product benchmarking (an exercise in comparing the advantages and disadvantages between competing products) likely requires, for example, mechanical and electrical engineering considerations. Add in a human that actually needs to use the product and one includes another discipline: ergonomics. This session will focus on an actual case study in which two competitive paint mixers used at big box stores were benchmarked from a mechanical, electrical, ergonomic and overall product use standpoint.

It’s Unclear Why My Water Isn’t Clear

A variety of factors can affect the quality of your water and distribution piping.  These factors may include water chemistry, temperature, pipe materials, pipe routing, speed, water dwell, galvanic couples, or bacterial growth.  The appearance of a water sample taken from one location in a system may only tell a portion of the story, and often it’s the first indicator there is a problem. One water sample may look different than a sample from another area of the system; samples can also look different depending on the time of day.  This session will touch on a few examples of unclear water and how clarifying the solution(s) to the problem takes patience, persistence and careful observation and testing.
