Cabled Hat Class

Been meaning to add cable knitting to your array of knitting skills?  Look no further!  Echo will be guiding a class of knitters on their first journey into cable knitting.  In this class, students will be learning  how to knit a lovely slouchy hat in seed stitch, with a 4-stranded braid running up the side.  In this class you will also learn about the history of cable knitting, how to read a cable knitting pattern and chart, and come away with a short guide of beginning cable stitches.

Students will receive a free hat pattern for this class via email by February 1st, and will be expected to arrive at class with the brim of the hat knit and ready to go so that they can leap right in and learn how to cable.

Prerequisites:  This is a beginning class, but students will need to come in knowing a few basics:  how to cast on, knit and purl, K2tog (knit two together), and how to knit in the round.

Supplies Needed:

  • 1-2 skeins of Plymouth Yarns Homestead or Homestead Tweed (or other aran-weight yarn)
  • Size 9 circular or double-pointed needles (Circular needles should me a minimum of 24" long.  If you will be using the Magic Loop method to decrease the top of your hat, plan on also having 40" circular needles.  If you are using double-pointed needles to decrease, plan on having those available.)
  • Cable needle or additional knitting needle (wooden is recommended, but not absolutely necessary)
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn needle

Students will receive 10% off on all materials needed for the class.
