"Best Practices for Developing a Commercial Glass Specification"

 Presenter:  Jennifer Highfield, LEED Green Associate, Architectural Design Associate:  Viracon

Program Description:

Get your glass specification correct the first time!  Attendees will learn ways to properly write a glass specification.  Concentrating on the glass schedule best practices will be shared and common mistakes will be addressed.  Having a properly written specification will ensure design goals are met; keeping the project on budget and on schedule.  

Prerequisite Knowledge:  A general knowledge of commercial glass terms and components should be known prior to the course.  

 Learning Objectives:

- Identify what division and section the glass schedule should be located

- Attendees will be able to identify 2 ways to specify flatter glass

- Ensure the correct product is being specified for the correct application

- Attendees will be able to recognize 3 technical glass terms and be able to describe why they are needed to get glass specified correctly

Presenter Bio:  Jennifer Highfield

LEED Green Associate, Architectural Design Associate: Viracon

Jennifer Highfield, Architectural Design Associate at Viracon, brings over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, including her current 8 year role in architectural glass design to the next great building project.  Jennifer assists architects, engineers, owners, and consultants in glass selection. She focuses on aligning growing sustainability demands, desire for neutral aesthetics and daylighting with glass solutions to enhance each project. She provides technical support and design solutions to architects that meet strict energy specifications and quality expectations.  Jennifer travels to architectural firms within the Northeast US region in collaboration with field representatives to provide project specific design assistance along with glazing education and new product updates.  Jennifer is an accredited LEED Green Associate and belongs to CSI, AIA, and USGBC.  When she’s not designing great glass for great buildings, you can find her boating with her family Up North MN, re-furbishing & chalk-painting something old, or exploring the mid-west from the back of the motorcycle.
