Tri-County Regional Planning Commission will offer a course in zoning through the Pennsylvania Municipal Planning Education Institute (PMPEI) on three consecutive Tuesdays, September 13, 20 and 27, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., at the Swatara Township Municipal Building, 599 Eisenhower Boulevard.
The course will examine how zoning evolved in the U.S. and how its history continues to shape how it is practiced in Pennsylvania today.
It will begin with a review of PA’s Municipal Planning Code and the “nuts and bolts” fundamentals for drafting zoning ordinances and amendments.
Included will be advanced techniques like overlay and performance zoning, planned residential development, and traditional neighborhood development.
The relationship of zoning to comprehensive planning and the need for them to be consistent will be emphasized.
Also included will be mapping exercises and analyses of zoning ordinance provisions.
Problem situations and ethical dilemmas in zoning will also be discussed.
The role of the planning commission as well as procedures for enacting zoning ordinances and guidelines for rezoning will be discussed in detail.
Cost is $35 payable by check in advance or at the first class.
NOTE: Attendance at all three sessions is required for completion.
Co-sponsored by the American Planning Association’s PA Chapter, Central Section.
