Juveniles Who Sexually Offended: Characteristics, Assessment, and Treatment

Presenter: Norbert Ralph, PhD, MPH 

This workshop will present practical information regarding the characteristics, assessment, and treatment of adolescents who have sexually offended.  Dr. Norbert Ralph will cover various topics including psychiatric and neurodevelopmental characteristics, epidemiology, and recidivism rates.  He will also discuss best practices for practical assessment and treatment methods, as well as some of his own research.  Lastly, program models and collaboration with probation services will be covered.

This workshop is appropriate for probation and detention staff, as well as mental health professionals.

  • Explain two ways brain development impacts harmful behaviors
  • List and define two typology types
  • Describe two assessment tools
  • Identify two treatment approaches and note the defining feature of each
