Auckland Post Budget Breakfast

Each year CPAG provides child-focused analyses and commentary of the year's budget. The aim is to provide an accessible and affordable avenue for the community to come together and hear about how the budget affects children and young people, especially our most vulnerable who live in poverty. 

Breakfast will be served at 7.15am. Speakers will start at 7.30am. 

Guest Speakers 

Shamubeel Eaqub - Shamubeel is an experienced economist who makes economics easy, he is also an author, media commentator and a thought leading public speaker.He has over a decade of experience as an economist in Wellington, Melbourne and Auckland in leading international banks and consultancy.He is on various boards of charities and commercial firms. He writes books in his own time on issues that matter to New Zealand and gives voice to the unheard.

Associate Professor Toeolesulusulu Damon Salesa-  Toeolesulusulu Damon Salesa is a prizewinning scholar who specializes in the study of colonialism, empire, government and race.  With a particular interest in the Pacific Islands, he also works on education, economics and development in the Pacific region, as well as in New Zealand and Australia.  After studying at the University of Auckland, he completed his studies at Oxford University.He is currently Associate Professor of Pacific Studies at the Centre for Pacific Studies, University of Auckland, where he is also head of Pacific Studies, Director of the New Zealand Institute for Pacific Research and Co-Head of Te Wananga o Waipapa.


Alan Johnson - CPAG’s Housing expert.Alan currently works as a social policy analyst for The Salvation Army's Social Policy & Parliamentary Unit.  He is author of A Mountain all can climb which is The Salvation Army's 2015 State of the Nation report. In his spare time he is a community activist in South Auckland where he is active as an administrator in local sports clubs and as a school trustee. He has also held positions as a trustee of the Auckland Community Housing Trust and as the Chair of Community Housing Aotearoa.He has an academic background in town planning and economics and has been involved in Auckland local government for over 20 years both as a politician and bureaucrat.

 

This event is part of CPAG's Nationwide Budget Breakfast Series being held in seven main centres - Whangarei, Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Hamilton, Christchurch and Nelson (June 1)
