Lessons from the field - A full day of public engagement workshops

Lessons from the field- a full day of workshops about public engagement

As part of Engage Memorial, a week of events celebrating public engagement at Memorial, students, staff, faculty and members of the public are invited to a day of workshop sessions about public engagement.

When: February 13th,  8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Where: The Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation (keynote will take place in Innovation Hall, with workshop sessions in the Beatrice Watts Boardroom and the Genesis Boardroom).

We’ve gathered experienced individuals, both internal and external, to share their thoughts on the practise of public engagement. The day will begin with a keynote address by Dr. Stanley Deetz, University of Colorado at Boulder, followed by 8 concurrent sessions.

During the workshop day, we are also presenting a public engagement fair featuring booths from Memorial’s public engagement support units. Please feel free to ask questions, and learn about the services and programs they have to offer.

Workshops include:

  • Building sustainable partnerships
  • Responding to community-identified needs
  • Building public engagement into the curriculum
  • Engaging with Aboriginal communities
  • Overcoming the academic divide-communicating from the inside out and the outside in
  • Working with the media in public engagement
  • Recognizing public engagement in promotion and tenure
  • Finding funding for public engagement

Lunch is provided to all workshop and fair participants.
