Saugus River Watershed Council Annual Meeting
Wednesday, 16 November 2011, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Please join the Saugus River Watershed Council and friends for our annual meeting and dinner at the Hilltop Steakhouse, Route 1 South in Saugus on Wednesday, 16 November 2011, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Keynote Presentation: Images of Lake Quannapowitt
Local authors Alison Simcox and SRWC Vice President Douglas Heath will present a lively narration along with historic photos and images from their new book, "Images of Lake Quannapowitt". The book chronicles the unique history of Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield, which forms the headwaters of the Saugus River watershed. Alison and Doug will also be on hand to sign copies of the book for guests interested in purchasing them at the dinner.
Local 'Whistleblowers' to Receive River Stewardship Awards
Please join us in honoring this year's recipients of River Stewardship Awards. Brady Howard and Octavio Frietas will receive River Stewardship Awards for their role as 'whistleblowers' in a case which resulted in a $7.5 million settlement by the Massachusetts Attorney General's office against Wheelabrator to resolve allegations of environmental violations at their waste incineration facilities in Saugus and other locations in Massachusetts earlier this year.
SRWC Director Joan LeBlanc will provide highlights of the Council's 2011 programs and accomplishments, and officers and board members will be elected during a brief business meeting.
This event is open to the general public. Admission is $25 per person including a delicious dinner buffet featuring sirloin tips, baked scrod, chicken parmigiana, roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables, salad, fruit, rolls, chocolate cake, coffee and tea. Cash bar available. RSVP required.
