Small Firm Forum: February 2012

The Small Firm Forum will travel once again! This time, we're hosted by the Tileshop at 1005 Harrison Street in Berkeley for lunch and a panel discussion.

The panel of professionals will address practical applications and possible options for grouts, mortars, and membranes. Panel includes C54 licensed contractors and the technical support representative from Custom Building Products. All will offer field experience, job site usage and performance of setting products. A question/answer session will follow.

About the speakers:

Riley Doty - Tile setter for more than 30 years; Board member of Tile Heritage Foundation; Member of Artistic License, a Bay Area Guild of period craftspeople.
Danielle De Pianto of J Monti Tile - Operates a 3rd generation tile setting company which offers quality custom tile work, often in traditional mortar bed installations.
Rick Moale - Owner of Richard Moale Tile & Natural Stone. Projects include residential and commercial jobs.
Clayton Peck - Custom Bldg. Products - Regional Technical Representative. Duties include job product and system specification, job problem analysis and correction, contractor training, distributor training and technical sales support.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of the panel, attendees will

  • Be able to state what types of mortar or thinset are appropriate in different setting applications.
  • Know the different types of grout, where they are used and why.
  • State at least three examples of different waterproof membranes.
  • Will be able to provide three technical statements regarding a new product from the viewpoint of both the supplier and installer.
