Kurt Schindler, FAIA, of ELS Architecture and Urban Design leads us on a design tour of Pleasanton’s newest jewel: the Firehouse Arts Center.
The City of Pleasanton’s historic 1929 Fire House One was completely renovated and transformed into a newly expanded arts center featuring a state-of-the-art flexible 230-seat theater, a fine arts gallery, full classrooms, a grand lobby and office space. A new landmark for theater and visual arts, the 17,000 s.f. facility creates a strong pedestrian connection from Main Street to the expanded Lions Wayside Park and serves as the catalyst for the development of downtown Pleasanton into a thriving cultural arts district. The center was also designed with sustainable design strategies equivalent to a LEED Silver rating.
