Emergency Summit for National American Muslim Leaders

2016 Election Results: Rising up to the Challenge

Dear Imams, community leaders and activists,

Assalamu Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

USCMO is inviting you to join our Emergency Leadership Summit this Sunday, November 20th in Washington D.C. to discuss urgent matters concerning the American Muslim community in light of the election results and beyond.

The American Muslim community is going through challenging times after the surprising election results. Hate crimes and Islamophobia are rising throughout the country. USCMO is holding this summit for Muslim leaders to discuss the ramifications of this election on our community. We will also discuss the impact of this change in administration on Muslims civil rights and come up with an action plan to deal with these challenges.

We recognize that this invitation comes at short notice due to the unexpected election results and logistics in planning such an event, but we believe that the seriousness of the situation warrants that we make the necessary sarifices to respond to this emergent situation in a timely manner. We have met in previous summits and we were able to come up with great resolutions and actions. The One Million Voter Registration Drive initiative we took was historic and truley energized our community and it was well covered by the media. We can rise to the current challenge and we will prevail as always insha'Allah.

We hope you will give this meeting its due urgency and importance and plan to attend. See you soon!

Oussama Jammal
