Sonya Malvick is the AWMI International President. She has over thirty years in the metals industry and has been a top producing sales professional throughout her career. She currently works for Olympic Steel managing the Wisconsin Territory. Olympic Steel is a large service center specializing in carbon, stainless, aluminum and coated flat roll sheet, coil and plate steel as well as value-added services. They have locations throughout the United States and Canada. Back in the late 90's, Sonya was the first women to go on the road for Russel Metals-Bahcall and the second woman in the industry. She was also one of the first women managers for the company. During her early years of navigating the industry, she was invited to a local AWMI event and has now been a member for over 24 years.

AWMI-The Association of Women in the Metals Industry has been a great organization that has supported her throughout her career. The organization's four cornerstones (Grow, Educate, Mentor and Network) are important both personally and professionally. One should always be looking to mentor others, cheer on their successes and help them through their failures. We should push ourselves to take advantage of continued learning and enjoy the opportunity to network with our peers. AWMI is a great group of women and men who support each other.

Throughout her membership, Sonya has been actively involved with leadership. She served on the local chapter for thirteen years n a variety of positions and then moved to the International level where she served as Programs Chair for six years, Vice President for two years and is currently the AWMI International President. Her focus during the first year as President is to "embrace change" as she looks to facilitate new mentoring programs, leadership training opportunites and a new AWMI website. Her goal is to not only continue to grow AWMI's membership but to offer leadership training and mentoring for future career growth as well as growth within the AWMI leadership. Sonya attributes her success to organizations like AWMI as well as fellow leaders that have taken the time to mentor her.  This has allowed her to continue to grow both personally and professionally and ser her up for continued leadership roles. It is her desire to pay it forward as she currently mentors others within the industry.

Katryn Ingstad is the President of the Chicago Chapter of AWMI. She began her career over 14 years ago in the scrap metal industry. Katryn loves the intensity of the metals industry and the relationships within the community. IN 2008-2009, Katryn served on the AWMI Chicago Chapter board as the Marketing Chair before relocating out of the Chicago area and reentered the board as Vice President in 2018.

Jen Skala is at the end of her 2-year term as President of the AWMI Minnesota Chapter and will transition to her new role as Past President. She has previous board experience as Vice President, Secretary and Fundraising Chair. She has been in the steel industry since 2011 when she joined Olympic Steel, located in Plymouth, MN as a buyer. Since she has been promoted to Senior Buyer in 2013 and most recently Inventory Control and Scheduling Manager at the beginning of 2019. As someone who was new to the metals industries, Jen saw the benefit of joining AWMI. Being a part of AWMI helped her integrate into an industry in which so many people have been working continuously for many years. Jen has benefited from mentoring and networking from the contacts she has made in AWMI while gaining valuable industry knowledge and growing professionally.

Melissa McGurk is the President for the Alabama Chapter of AWMI. She previously served this chapter of AWMI as Programs Co-Chair and Vice President. Melissa joined the steel industry in 2011 as an Executive Assistant to the VP of Sales & Maketing at ThyssenKrupp Steel USA located in Calvert, AL. Following the pruchase of the Calvery assets by AM/NS Calvert in 2014, Melissa assumed the role of Sales Coordinator for Distribution, and later added Tubular & Heavy Equipment markets to her duties. In early 2017, she was promoted to Account Manager, Specials Products, with a focus on Slab Rolling Sales out of the Calvert facility. In addition to her career, she is an active member of the Mardi Gras Society, Apollo's Mystic Ladies and most weekends you can find her enjoying all the Gulf Coast has to offer with her new husband and step-son.
