("*" indicate those who will speak as well)
*AIAA California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) Branch
The CSULB student branch creates networking events, invites guest speakers to their campus, promotes aerospace engineering to the younger generation, and has 3 exciting projects (Beach Launch Team, Design, Build, Fly, and Long Beach Rocketry) for their members to take part in.
*AIAA University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Branch
AIAA at UCLA is a professional organization that connects students, industry representatives, and academics dedicated to the advancement of aeronautics and astronautics. Throughout the school year, our chapter collaborates with various aerospace companies to provide events that facilitate networking and promote professional development skills for our members. In addition to these opportunities, the backbone of our organization are the three student projects: Design/Build/Fly (DBF), the Rocket Project at UCLA (URP), and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). These projects expand the educational experience of AIAA members, allowing them to apply the concepts they learn in the classroom to real engineering missions, and problems.
*AIAA University of Southern California (USC) Branch
At the University of Southern California, AIAA serves as an interface between students and the professional aerospace community by hosting lectures, industry networking events, and career information sessions. Furthermore, our branch helps students learn about aerospace research underway at USC campus and supports submission to AIAA design competitions like this year’s Hybrid-Electric General Aviation Aircraft (HEGAA) competition.
*AIAA University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Branch
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas student branch serves the purpose of facilitating the implementation of aerospace related projects and research at UNLV and promoting the importance of aerospace among the student body. Students participate in radio controlled airplane and rocketry projects and competitions such as CanSat and 3D Printed Aircraft Competition, supplementing their education with hands-on experience. UNLV AIAA also participates in local, regional, and national events and conferences that allow students to meet and network with other students, industry professionals, and aerospace companies.

*Dr. Nahum Melamed (Planetary Defense & NEOs Deflection App)
Project Leader, Aerospace Corporation
Dr. Nahum Melamed is a project leader at The Aerospace Corporation since 2003. He received BS and MS in Aerospace Engineering from the Technion, Israel, and PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech. His expertise include Orbital Mechanics and Optimal Guidance. His key activities include Planetary Defense from Near Earth Objects, Space Debris Mitigation and Flight SW Validation.
He leads a collaboration with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) developing a physics based web NEO Deflection App, or NDA, to design NEO deflection missions and gain insights on the challenges involved. This includes descriptions and tutorials that are necessary to interpret the data, supports planetary defense conferences, workshops and exercises, and is available online https://cneos.jpl.nasa.gov/nda/. Dr. Melamed serves on planetary defense conferences and planetary defense exercises organizing committees, gives talks at these venues, and instructs a planetary defense class at Aerospace.Manager / Preoject Leader / Research
*Dr. Rostislav Spektor (Advanced Electric/Plasma Propulsion)
Scientist, Aerospace Corp., AIAA Distinguished Lecturer
Rostislav Spektor is the Electric Propulsion and Plasma Science section manager in the Propulsion Science Department at the Aerospace Corporation. He is also the current chair of the AIAA Electric Propulsion Technical Committee (EPTC) and the technical chair of the International Electric Propulsion Conference, which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia in 2017. Dr. Spektor holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, with emphasis on electric propulsion and plasma science, from Princeton University. He also has a BS degree in Nuclear Engineering as well as in Materials Sciences from UC Berkeley. Dr. Spektor joined The Aerospace Corporation in 2004 as a Member of Technical Staff and participated in the design, construction, launches, and orbital support of multiple Air Force satellites. In his role as a laboratory section manager he is responsible for coordinating the efforts of a dozen PhD scientists and supporting stuff. He has helped to develop and implement multiple commercial contracts, design and improve innovative diagnostics technics and is an author of multiple journal and conference papers.
*Alan Chan - Red Rover Planetary Driving Simulator
RED ROVER is a Mars driving simulator that uses NASA HiRISE satellite data and imagery to replicate a traversable terrain on the PC for you to drive around and explore!
Alan Chan is a twenty-year visual effects veteran whose career spans multiple Clio advertising awards for outstanding visual effects in the commercial field, as well as work on three Academy Award winning projects, including James Cameron’s “Titanic“, Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” and Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland“. In addition to visual effects work, Alan is also a screenwriter and director. His most recent directorial project “Highflight” is a love letter to space exploration.

Marc Leatham is a new career Space Systems Engineer working for Booz Allen Hamilton in El Segundo. His work tasks focus on modeling The Gateway Spacestation for NASA, but his true love for science and space stems from the unique hobby of taking pictures of nebulae and galaxies with his backyard telescope. In recent years his work has begun to gain more attention, resulting in it being hung in establishments around the world. When possible, Marc travels the western states presenting the story of finding a love for engineering through discovering the cosmos, and how you can too.
Barboza Space Center
*Bob Barboza (Mars, Robots, and Fellowships)
Bob Barboza is an educator, STEM program designer, astrosociologist, and founder/director of the Barboza Space Center, and Kids Talk Radio Science. He is a member of the Mars Society, AIAA, the Planetary and a board member of the Robotic Society of Southern California
The Barboza Space Center trains Jr. astronauts, engineers and scientists to design Mars colonies. Students learn how to design, build and repair Martian habitats, robots, Mars landers, probes, and science labs. Students receive fellowships to participate in project-based learning through distance learning and summer Jr. astronaut training programs. We are teaching STEAM++ (science, technology, engineering, visual and performing arts, mathematics, computer and foreign languages). Our students collaborate with international students as they podcast on Kids Talk Radio Science.
