About the Fund which supports this lecture...

When Rob's father and dental partner Frank Hoopes died in 1976' Rob's mother Edna, his family, and donors of gifts for "Dr. Frank," established this lecture fund to provide honoraria for expert speakers to provide continuing dental education in Delaware. While the lectures have been open to the public, actively practicing dentists and physicians are the target audience. Frank Hoopes was ahead of his time in recognizing this need; he was especially interested in medical-dental collaboration.

During his retirement, Rob was engaged in updating the lecture program. The funds are now managed by the Delaware Community Foundation who send an annual donation to the Delaware Academy of Medicine who work with the Delaware State Dental Society to design and present the Annual Hoopes Lecture.

The Delaware Academy of Medicine and the Delaware State Dental Society are pleased to hold the 2017 Frank M. and Robert R. Hoopes Medical/Dental Lecture

The World of Maxillofacial Prosthetics

This year's keynote speaker is Jeffrey M. Rodney, DMD, FACP.  Dr. Rodney is a maxillofacial prosthodontist at Christiana Care Health System. He cares for patients with defects or disabilities to the head and neck that were present when born or developed due to disease or trauma. Prostheses are often needed to replace missing areas of bone or tissue and restore oral functions such as swallowing, speech, and chewing. Dr. Rodney's specialty also includes facial prosthetics involving ear, eye and nose replacements. He joined Christiana Care most recently from the University of Michigan Health Care System (U-M), Hospital Dentistry, where he was assistant clinical professor. Dr. Rodney’s activities at U-M included maxillofacial prosthetic clinical work and research, and teaching post-graduate prosthodontic residents. Previously, he spent 20 years as a solo practitioner in private practice prosthodontics in central New Jersey. Dr. Rodney is board-certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics.

Dr. Rodney earned his doctor of dental medicine from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (Penn).
