Orthopedic and Sports Related Shoulder and Elbow Injuries: An Evidence-Based Course Focusing on Examination and Treatment

Course Description

This exciting two-day course is designed to proved clinical application to anatomy, examination, evaluation and treatment techniques for patients with shoulder and elbow pathology. A variety of pathologies, evaluation methods including special tests, and treatment strategies will be discussed.

Expected Outcomes

1. Therapists and trainers will be able to understand and implement examination strategies and techniques to improve understanding of which treatment techniques will be more useful for a variety of conditions.
2. Therapists and trainers will be able to design and implement treatment strategies and regimens for various conditions which will allow more expedient return to full unrestricted activity.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the medical interventions utilized in the management of pathological conditions of the shoulder and elbow commonly seen by physical therapists.
  • Justify and relate the latest special testing procedures of specific pathologies of the shoulder and elbow.
  • Design and justify appropriate rehabilitation programs for different shoulder and elbow pathologies.
  • Recognize and evaluate common shoulder and elbow injuries.
  • Describe pathological conditions of the shoulder and elbow frequently encountered by PT’s.
  • Discuss therapeutic exercise and compare and contrast techniques for various shoulder and elbow pathologies.
  • Implement and utilize functional outcome measurement tools for the shoulder and elbow.
  • Uses a clinical decision – making process to establish a differential diagnosis, synthesized from data obtained by the PT examination.
  • Develop evidence based rehabilitation programs for specific pathologies that are based on current scientific literature.
  • Organize symptoms into clusters, syndromes or categories in order to be placed in appropriate treatment regimes.
  • Review various functional tests described in scientific literature used to determine your patient’s functional return to activities.
  • Integrate current exercis technology into the rehabilitation process for shoulder and elbow injuries
