WTS-Sacramento June Program:
Allison Joe, CA Strategic Growth Council
We are pleased to be welcoming Allison Joe, an American Institute Certified Planner, to discuss the latest developments from the California Strategic Growth Council on June 27, 2013.
In September 2008, Senate Bill 732 was signed into law, creating the Strategic Growth Council. The Council is a cabinet level committee that is tasked with coordinating the activities of state agencies to:
- Improve air and water quality
- Protect natural resources and agriculture lands
- Increase the availability of affordable housing
- Promote public health
- Improve transportation
- Encourage greater infill and compact development
- Revitalize community and urban centers
- Assist state and local entities in the planning of sustainable communities and meeting AB 32 goals
The Council is composed of agency secretaries from Business Transportation and Housing, California Health and Human Services, the California Environmental Protection Agency, and the California Natural Resources Agency; the director of the Governor's Office of Planning and Research; and public member Robert Fisher who was appointed by the Governor.
About our Speaker:
Allison S. Joe, AICP, works on efforts related to development and implementation of statewide and regional land use planning efforts, including implementation of Senate Bill 375, sustainable infrastructure, and infill and transit-oriented development policies. Allison has professional experience in public infrastructure finance, real estate market and financial feasibility analysis, economic development, housing policy, and industry sector analysis. Significant experience in market analysis and urban revitalization is a foundation of Allison's professional portfolio, particularly in the Central Valley and Southern California.
Ms. Joe received her MA in Planning from the University of Southern California and a BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from Claremont McKenna College. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, American Planning Association, and the Urban Land Institute, and is also a Commissioner on the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission.
