The 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Featuring Neil Burke, Deputy Director CRTPO

The WTS Charlotte Metro Chapter is pleased to host Neil Burke, AICP, PTP, Deputy Director with the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO), on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. CRTPO recently adopted its 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) for the Charlotte Region, which covers all of Iredell and Mecklenburg counties and a portion of Union County, on March 23, 2022.

The MTP is a plan that documents the region’s vision for the future and establishes goals, objectives, and transportation priorities over the next 20+ years to help achieve that vision. This plan considers all surface transportation modes (driving, bicycling, walking, riding transit, freight movement) while also thinking about impacts to the environment, the economy, public health, and overall quality of life. It also identifies ways to fund needed projects, prioritizes how funding is spent, and establishes metrics to measure if we are moving in the right direction.

Neil Burke has over 17 years of management and analyst roles in transportation and urban planning projects throughout the United States. Currently, Neil is the Deputy Director with the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO). Within this role, he leads in the development of transportation plans, and serves as Secretary to the CRTPO policy board of elected officials. In prior roles, Mr. Burke has served as project manager in corridor studies, small area plans, bicycle and pedestrian plans, traffic impact analyses, transit plans, and identification of funding sources for a wide variety of multimodal transportation projects. Mr. Burke holds a Master of Science in Transportation from Iowa State University and an undergraduate degree in Geography and Urban Planning from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
