Refund and Cancellation Policy – Non-emergency
If you are unable to attend the Singapore Math®: Anchor Tasks & Problem Solving Professional Development Workshop, we encourage you to send someone in your place. Paid registrants may transfer their registration by informing Marshall Cavendish Education prior to May 20, 2016. Marshall Cavendish Education must approve the transferred registration.
If you are unable to arrange for a substitute, please notify Marshall Cavendish Education before May 20, 2016 to receive a 25% refund. Please note that there will be no refunds issued after May 20, 2016.
Emergency Illness, Death of Registrant, or Death of Immediate Family Member
Refunds may be granted if a registrant is unable to attend the conference due to a family death, illness, or other extraordinary circumstance. In such event, Marshall Cavendish Education must be contacted by phone, e-mail, or written letter. If the initial notification is by phone, you must follow-up in writing by e-mail or written letter. The refund may be subject to a 10% processing fee.

This dynamic, one-day interactive workshop will benefit all K-5th grade educators--those already using Math in Focus®, Primary Mathematics, or Math Buddies, as well as newcomers drawn to the Singapore Math Approach because of its results in high student achievement in math.
Covering three important topics --Anchor Tasks, Teaching of Fractions and Bar Modeling--presenters Hoover Herrera and Chris Coyne will demonstrate how Singapore Math Anchor Tasks are developed and taught, how Fractions are taught using the Singapore approach and present and solve a series of word problems of varying degree of difficulty using the bar model method. Educators will learn proven and practical strategies that will boost student confidence, engage pupils, and impart life-long, real-world problem-solving skills.

Synopsis: Singapore textbooks are written with the main learning task being an Anchor Task. An Anchor task is the single task used over a prolonged period of instructional time. It embodies the idea of “Teach Less, Learn More”, a philosophy of the Singapore education system. In this hands-on session, through examples from Singapore Math® textbooks, participants will learn about what are Anchor Tasks, how to identify problems that lend themselves to become Anchor Tasks, and how to teach mathematics through Anchor Tasks.

Synopsis- In this hands-on session, participants will learn about the concepts of fractions as equal parts, fraction notation and equivalent fractions. Also discussed are fractions as a whole, part of a set and part of a number. Through the use of manipulatives, participants will learn how to teach the four basic operations including mental strategies.
Duration: 2 hours Presenter: Chris Coyne, US Singapore Math® Expert
Synopsis: In this session, participants will solve selected problems by using the bar model technique. Through a series of problems with varying degrees of difficulty, participants will learn how to use a bar model to solve part-whole, comparison and fraction word problems using all four operations. Strategies on how to teach bar modeling to students will also be discussed.
