PHS Theater Department Presents

The Foreigner & She Kills Monsters

The Foreigner, by Larry Shue  Shy Englishman Charlie Baker has a hard time speaking to strangers. To help him, his gregarious friend “Froggy” LeSueur tells the residents of a rural Georgia fishing lodge that Charlie is a foreigner who doesn’t understand English. Assuming their secrets are safe, chaos ensues when Charlie overhears dastardly plots involving the residents. He must figure out a way to help his new friends while still pretending to be a “foreigner.” Hailed as "a charming comedy about the magic of kindness" by Chicago Theater Beat, winner of two Obie Awards, the Best New American Play of 1984, and Best Off-Broadway Production, The Foreigner is an old-fashioned comedy that celebrates our curiosity and empathy for the outsider.

The production features these PHS juniors and seniors: Stuart Ashford, Tatum Burnett, David Ehrlich, Jo Ireland, Nathan Kruger, Walter LeDuy, and Luke Smith.

This production is recommended for audiences ages seven and older.

The Foreigner will be presented Thursday, November 13 and Saturday,
November 15 at 7:30 p.m. each night.

She Kills Monsters, by Qui Nguyen:  Named one of the ten best plays of 2013 by Time Out Chicago and winner of a 2013 Distinguished Play Award from the Alliance for Theater and Education, She Kills Monsters is a darkly comedic fantasy that delves into the world of role-playing games. Agnes’s life is turned upside down when she stumbles upon her late sister’s Dungeons and Dragon’s module. As she embarks on an action-packed quest to save her sister’s soul, she comes face to face with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and bloodthirsty cheerleaders. Acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen combines real life, fantasy, and 90’s pop culture in the search for the geek and warrior within us all by immersing us in the fantasy we loved as children, the heartbreak we face as adults and the humor that keeps us somewhere in between.

She Kills Monsters features: Ryan Castle, Sarah Chin, Robbie Diaz, Elie Docter, Tyler Ellis, Cassie Fox-Mount, Amy Kelleher, Ethan Leon, Laurel Rosenbaum, Cecilia Soghikian, Sarah Stuetz, with cameos by Eric Mura, Maura Phillips, Landon Campbell, Julia Kelly, and other actiing students.

This production is rated PG for adult situations and violence.

She Kills Monsters  will be performed Friday, November 14 and Sunday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. each night.
