Course Description
This course meets and exceeds requirements for pistol permits granted by counties in New York. The course will last 6 hours and includes both classroom and computerized shooting simulator training. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting positions; how to clean a pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and a course completion letter and certificate for their permit application process. Students will also take an open-book written exam. No Pistol Permit is required to attend this class. In order to obtain full NRA Certification, students must complete a course of live fire once they obtain a pistol permit. This class meets or exceeds the training objectives for New York Counties that require safety training to obtain a pistol permit. Completing live fire at a later date allows students to qualify for New York Full Carry Permits, the Connecticut non-resident permit, and the Florida Non-Resident Pistol Permit, which is valid in 30+ states!
