Called to Serve (Lamados A Servir) Group

FIRST MEETING:  Friday, April 14 @7pm; Lebanon Church of the Brethren (400 Locust St., Lebanon, PA 17042)  This first meeting will be just to talk about this project, share ideas and learn more about the group.  It will be to prepare for our first outing:  What can we expect, what is our goal, how can I serve others.

GROUP LEADER:  Arlyn Morales; 717-330-1403; dolphins2931@hotmail.com; or Facebook Messenger

We want to serve the homeless community by sharing the love of Christ through spiritual and emotional care and help, share the word of God, pray, and listen to the needs of each one. The goal is support them once a month, for a full hour, offering a hot meal, or snack.  In addition, we want to bring items of person need such as - toothbrushes, toothpaste, wipes, sanitary napkins, bedspreads, hats, gloves, scarves, etc.

Our hearts are urging to serve those in need. As a group we need to work together to be able to get donations to make all of this possible.

I want to share that 4 years ago I started working with this ministry to help the Homeless, and being in prayer this opportunity has been presented to raise this group and those who are available and feel in their hearts can join this group. From my past experiences I know that there is such a need, I know that this captivates their hearts and they feel that God has not forgotten them. They feel Joy and much gratitude that there are still people with a serving heart.

Called to Serve   is a group with a servant's heart and full of compassion for those whose life has been harder than others and who did not have the strength to get up from failure, pain, frustration,  trauma or disappointment.  We will extend our hands, our ears and our hearts, for each of these. with God's help.

And do you identify with this group that has come from the heart of a servant willing to be sent by God to imitate the mercy and compassion of Jesus here on earth?

God is with us.   The Bible teaches us to love and serve others 1 John 13:34 A new commandment I give you: Love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

We must serve those in need because we follow in the footsteps of Christ. The apostle Paul tells us to have the same attitude as Christ Jesus, “who, being in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to cling to, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, made in the likeness of men" (Phil 2:5-7). Christ was, above all, a servant of his Father because he never acted on his own initiative, but only did what the Father asked him to serve humanity and give his life as a ransom for many.

If you have a servant's heart, join this group, let's get rid of ourselves and take the form of a servant, just like Jesus did. Who should we imitate? I am sure that through our service to others God will touch hearts and we will help many to get closer to a God who has not forgotten them.

I share some biblical verses that help us reflect on the gift of service:

James 2:14-17  brothers, what good is it if someone says that he has faith, and does not have works? Can faith save you? And if a brother or a sister are naked, and need daily maintenance, and one of you says to them: Go in peace, warm yourselves and be satisfied, but you do not give them the things that are necessary for the body, of what use? take advantage of? So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself."

Matthew 25:40 - "And the King answering, he will say to them: Verily I say to you, as soon as you did it to one of these my least brothers, you did it to me."

Isaiah 6:8 -Then I heard the voice of the Lord, which said: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I answered: Here I am, send me."

Matthew 5:3 - Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Proverbs 3:27- Do not deny the good to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.

Proverbs 19:17 - He who takes pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward him for his good deed.

2 Corinthians 1:4 - who comforts us in all our tribulation, so that we can comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
