AIR FORCE ACADEMY

The Air Force Academy is Colorado’s most visited, man-made attraction. Bring your camera and lots of film. The buildings and surroundings present lots of scenic views. Start your tour at the Visitor Center. Browse around the exhibits and/or see a film about cadet life and the Academy’s history, then pick up a self-guided tour map. The Cadet Chapel is the Air Force Academy’s most photographed sight with its 150’ tall aluminum spires, and visitors are allowed inside. You can get there by foot from the Visitor Center on a self-guided, one-third-mile long nature trail. Other Air Force Academy highlights include the B-52 Bomber Display, and the Thunderbird Airmanship Overlook, where you may see cadets practicing their flying and parachute.

Tour begins at 3:00 p.m. and lasts approximately 3 hours.

The most visited mountain in North America. At an altitude of 14,110 feet above sea level, Pikes Peak is the farthest east of the big peaks in the Rocky Mountain chain. You’ll see breathtaking views and places of interest along the way. The last 3 miles of your journey to the top are all above timberline. To the east stretch the Great Plains out beyond the border of Colorado and Kansas. To the south, the Sangre de Christo (Blood of Christ) Range stretches south to New Mexico. Once you reach the top of Pike’s Peak you will appreciate the amazing view. To the southwest sit the old mining towns of Cripple Creek and Victor; and if it’s a clear day, you can see the skyscrapers of downtown Denver.
