Attend one of the most respected and informational truss and rigging courses in the industry to increase your value and knowledge – TOMCAT U. This year’s program lasts a total of five days and offers three different courses, which allows you to choose the area of truss and rigging that is most suited and relevant for your needs.
A guided tour of the TOMCAT facility, with a catered dinner on factory grounds, is also included with each course. Snacks and refreshments during all five days are also provided.
TOMCAT U is held in beautiful and historic Gatlinburg, TN with the instruction taking place at the Convention Center and attendees stoping at the nearby Black Bear Inn.

Course 1 - Hoists and Truss
Truss / Ground Support Systems
Taught by TOMCAT's own COO, Will Todd, this class covers all the basics of truss design, construction and use, so your creativity can come to life safely and effectively.
Introduction to Automation
Jim Shumway, Project Manager for industry leader Tait Towers, will provide an introduction to the use of automation in the entertainment technology industry. This day long class will provide the attendees with a basic understanding of the complex and varied use of automation equipment including performer flying systems.
Hoists
In this 3 day certification process, Dave Carmack, CM's Chief Entertainment Product Trainer, will guide the attendees through the complete disassembly of a CM hoist to gain a fundamental understanding of its construction and operation, as well as how to carry out repairs.
Course 2 - Rigging and Fall Protection
Truss / Ground Support Systems
Taught by TOMCAT's own COO, Will Todd, this class covers all the basics of truss design, construction and use, so your creativity can come to life safely and effectively.
Rigging
For a total of three days, you’ll learn from Bill Sapsis, President of Sapsis Rigging, one of the industry’s leading rigging experts, who will carry out rigging demonstrations on a JTE truss system.
Fall Protection
Also taught by Bill Sapsis, this class will provide an introduction to fall protection systems and components. Rescue procedures and scenarios are demonstrated on-site.
Course 3 - SPRAT Level 1 Certification
SPRAT Certification
Five day training, evaluation and certification by a Rope Access training professional to become a Level 1 SPRAT certified rope access technician.

Transportation to and from Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS), and the TOMCAT facility, if needed.
For ETCP certified riggers, attendance of TOMCAT U provides the maximum allowable 30 renewal credits after completion. Please provide relevant membership information during registration to ensure acreditation.
