Faith & Reason Symposium 2013

Siena Heights University is hosting a “Faith & Reason Symposium” Oct. 19 on the Adrian campus.

Dr. Peter Feldmeier, the Murray/Bacik Professor of Catholic Studies at the University of Toledo, will deliver the keynote address titled “The Assurance of God: A Response to Atheism and a Reason for Faith.” He is published widely in Christian spirituality, comparative theology, and Buddhist-Christian dialogue. Named the 2010 Aquinas Scholars Professor of the Year, Feldmeier has recently published "Encounters in Faith: Christianity in Interreligious Dialogue and "The Path of Wisdom: A Christian Commentary on the Dhammapada," with Leo Lefebure, which won the Frederick Streng Award for excellence in Buddhist-Christian Studies.

Bishop of Lansing the Most Reverend Earl Boyea is also scheduled to attend the symposium, which is open to the community, particularly Catholic college and university students, faculty and staff members. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in St. Dominic Chapel. Bishop Boyea will also preside over Mass at the close of the symposium.

There are four breakout sessions scheduled on topics such as “Faith and Science: Strangers, Adversaries or Allies?” and “The Pious Scientist: Micromarvels and the Cosmos as Revelation.”

Cost for attendees who pre-register is $10 per person, and includes lunch. Pre-registration deadline is Oct. 15. The cost after Oct. 15 will be $15 per person.

For group registration, more information or questions regarding the symposium, please contact Tom Puszczewicz at 517-264-7192 or tpuszcze@sienaheights.edu
