School Safety Conference 2022 (Virtual)

We invite you to join school safety professionals from across the Commonwealth on March 28, 2022 for an exciting, one-day safety conference featuring Zoom seminars with nationally recognized speakers. Participants will engage in learning focused on adult Social Emotional Wellness, All-Hazards planning and physical safety best practices, and Threat Assessment.

Michelle Trujillo will kick off our day as she ignites hope and guides participants through a framework for well-being, followed by an afternoon session with Dr. Dewey Cornell presenting about Threat Assessment Best Practices. In addition, we will discuss All-Hazards Plans and Act 44-2018 Physical Security Assessments. This one-day conference is packed with helpful information that can help your school build upon your existing programs. Space is limited, so register today. We look forward to seeing you on March 28, 2022! Cost is $125 per participant. Conference counts towards 5.25 Act 48 hours.

Michelle L. Trujillo, MEd
Michelle Trujillo says her most important lifework is in her role as a wife and mom. Her husband, David, and their adult children, Corey and Dani, fill her  life with joy. Michelle is also an author, inspirational speaker, and educational consultant. “Mrs.  T” as she is known to her students and reading audience, makes  a tangible, sustainable, and positive difference through her books, speaking and training seminars. She shares enthusiasm,  experience, and applicable take-aways with her audience, while she imparts a philosophy that ignites hope in schools and the workplace. Named Nevada's 2016 Innovative Educator of the Year, Michelle has appeared on television (including Oprah) and radio across the nation as a guest expert. Her keynotes and trainings leave audiences enthused, inspired, deeply touched and wanting more! Michelle’s most recent book, Start with the Heart: Igniting Hope in Schools through Social and Emotional was released by Corwin Press in March, 2019. 

Dewey G. Cornell, PH.D.

Dr. Dewey G. Cornell trained originally as a clinical psychologist to work with children and adolescents. An unanticipated opportunity to work as a forensic clinical psychologist inspired him to undertake research on adolescent homicide and violence prevention. In 1986 he joined the faculty of the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. At UVa, he led the Virginia Youth Violence Project to develop and disseminate programs for preventing youth violence and creating safer and more effective schools. Over the past 30+ years he has authored more than 200 publications in psychology and education, initiated statewide school climate surveys in Virginia, and developed the Virginia Student Threat Assessment Guidelines. He has trained thousands of school-based threat assessment teams in the U.S. and Canada.

John Baker, M. Psych, CPP
John Baker serves as the Manager of Safety and Security Consulting Services for Lancaster Lebanon IU13. John has over 30 years of law enforcement public safety experience and travels regionally and nationally providing security consulting.  John believes in finding practical, affordable and proportionate safety and security solutions for organizations and brings a refreshing style to the often overwhelming topic of safety and security.   John is a board Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a CPTED Specialist focusing on designing safe and productive meeting space as well and undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology and Organizational Behaviors.  In addition John is a graduate of the Gavin deBecker Advanced Threat Assessment Institute along with many other advanced trainings. Whether a large conference or small group you will find John’s presentation style engaging and informative and leave empowered with a deeper understanding of safety and security issues we all face today.
