2021 Sea Turtle Saturday 

Before the Kemp's Ridley sea turtles head to Galveston beaches for the spring nesting season, make plans to learn about these welcome visitors at the 2021 Sea Turtle Saturday event. This year’s informative virtual seminar, coordinated by the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council (GINTC), will be hosted via Zoom on February 27^th from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM.    

This year’s program will feature presentations by Dr. Chris Marshall and Kimber De Salvo Anderson, scientists and conservationists working to save Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico. During the event you’ll also learn how you can become involved in helping preserve this extremely endangered species. 

Dr. Marshall, Director of the Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research at Texas A&M University at Galveston will present information on research and conservation at the Center. This includes a summary of their in-water satellite tagging work, Sea Aggie Sea Turtle Patrol, Sea Turtle Stranding Network and the current and future sea turtle rehabilitation hospital.

 Kimber, Gulf Coast Program Coordinator of the Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN) will discuss current work TIRN is conducting in the Gulf of Mexico.  She’ll provide insight on how people can get involved in ocean conservation on a daily basis and present a new app that aids in sea turtle conservation on the Texas coast in collaboration with Texas A&M University's Plotkin Lab.
