Train to become a Certified Recovery Support Worker (CRSW) to help initiate and sustain an individual or family in their recovery from substance use disorder/addiction. This virtual training series is for anyone who is involved in the recovery initiation of others and/or are in sustained recovery themselves.

Training Format: Each training will have interactive LIVE video sessions 3x per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday via Zoom & multi-week trainings will include independent work and peer discussion on North Country Health Consortium's web-based platform, Moodle.

The CRSW Training Series provides the opportunity to register for all 4 required CRSW certification courses or to select just the course or courses you wish to complete. Please indicate on the registration form which of the following four courses you plan to take:

Ethical Considerations

Dates: Oct. 17, 19, 21, 24, 26 & 28 @ 10am - 12pm, each day

Structure Overview:

3 two-hour ZOOMs per week
12 Hours ZOOM Participation
4 hours of Moodle Participation

Objectives
Following this training, participants will understand:

  • How to “stay in your lane” as a recovery coach
  • Issues around relationship boundaries and role clarity
  • The ethical decision-making process
  • How to develop guidelines for ethical decisions: Assess, Plan, Implement, Evaluate
  • Confidentiality issues with respect to treatment and other healthcare providers, and non-treatment organizations
Accreditation (completion of all 6 days required)

This course is pre-approved by Connecticut Certification Board for 16 CEs. NH Board of Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Counselors Professional Performance Categories of Competence: 4,5,12,13,15 & 18 Performance domains: IV & V. This trianing also meets with CPS Educational Domains for the following Porfessional Performance Categories: 4,5,12,13,15, & 18.

RCA: This course is pre-approved for 30CEs by the Connecticut Certification Board. NH Board of     Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Counselors Professional Practice Categories of Competence: 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 15 & 18. Performance Domains IV & V Peer Recovery Domains I,II,III, & IV. CRSW: Ethics (4 hours), Performance Domains 1-4, LADC/MLADC Categories of Competence: 18 This workshop meets the CPS Educational Domains: 6

Suicide Prevention: This course is pre-approved for 6 CEs by the NH Board of Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Counselors: 2 CEs for advocacy, 2 CEs for Recovery/Wellness, 1 CE for Ethics and 1 CE for Mentoring and Education 

Suicide Prevention

Dates: Nov. 14, 16 & 18 @ 10am - 12pm, each day

Structure Overview:

Objectives
Following this training, participants will:

  • Identify the risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide.
  • Understand the correlation between suicide, Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and mental health.
  • Gain the ability to talk about suicide, using person first language to reduce stigma and promote
  • help seeking behavior.
  • Understand the local and national statistics regarding suicide.
  • Describe the role of Recovery Coaches in suicide prevention.
  • Recall and practice strategies for suicide prevention.
  • Understand crisis protocol as a response to suicide prevention.
Accreditation (Completion of all 3 days required)

This training has been pre-approved by the NH Board of Licensing for Alcohol & Other Drug Use Professionals for 6 CEs Categories of Competence: 2CEs for advocacy, 2 CEs for Recovery/Wellness, 1 CE for Ethics, and 1 CE for Mentoring and Education

HIV & Other Infectious Diseases

Dates: Dec. 5, 7 & 9 @ 10am - 12pm, each day

Structure Overview:

3 two-hour ZOOMs
6 Hours ZOOM Participation

Objectives
Following this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the disease transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), Hepatitis C (HCV), and Hepatitis B (HBV).
  • Describe the process and benefits of testing for HIV/AIDS, HCV, and HBV.
  • Identify the disease progression for HIV/AIDS and how to assess clients’ risks along that progression.
  • Give examples of ways to support clients in prevention, treatment and diagnosis of HIV/AIDS.
  • Recognize the correlation between these diseases and substance use in many clients.
  • Give examples of harm-reduction strategies for clients.
  • Identify the legal rights for those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.
  • Describe how recovery support workers can help dispel the culture of stigma related to HIV/AIDS.

Recovery Coach Academy

Structure Overview:

3 two-hour ZOOMs per week
18 Hours ZOOM Participation
12 hours of Moodle Participation

Objectives: Following this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe Recovery Coach role and functions
  • List the core components, core values, and guiding principles of recovery
  • Build skills to enhance relationships
  • Explore many dimensions of recovery and recovery coaching
  • Discover attitudes about self-disclosure and sharing your story
  • Understand the stages of recovery
  • Describe the Stages of Change and its application
  • Increase awareness of culture, power, and privilege
  • Address ethical and boundary issues
  • Experience recovery wellness planning

TRAINERS

Jennifer Goulet, AS, spent four years coordinating for the Multiple Offender Program (MOP) at Tri-County Community Action Program (TCCAP) and discovered a passion for helping those in her community that suffer with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). This employment experience, as well as, personal experiences has led Jennifer to become employed as a Community Health Worker/Recovery Coach (CHW/RC) at the North Country Health Consortium (NCHC) in Littleton, NH. Now as NCHC's Recovery Support Manager, she is pursuing her CRSW to realize her commitment in improving the overall health and wellness of all New Hampshire residents that struggle with addiction. It is her belief that the CHW/RC is an essential member of the team in private practices, federally qualified health centers, social services, community settings and public health.

Tina Holmes, CRSW, is a Parent Partner with The Family Resource Center as part of the Strength to Succeed Program. Tina is a Trained Trainer in the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy Model. Tina resides in Groveton, NH and has a passion for helping others and increasing recovery support.
