Social Justice: How Starting Small Can Change Our Communities

Wednesday October 19, 2016

Time: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm        2 hours training

Fee: $35.00     FCC Fee: $20.00 (Promo Code)

As Early Childhood Educators we need to remember that we need to connect with communities and give back. Humanity starts small. Children are loving, caring and extremely empathetic; they need exposure to the realities that surround them and need to learn to connect and be kind. The aim of this workshop is to facilitate a discussion on the importance of starting small, creating community in the classroom and connecting outside of the center.

Objectives:

  • To understand that community begins in the classroom.
  • To explore ways to connect to our communities.
  • To discuss the benefits of intergenerational activities.
  • To discover ways to integrate social justice in early childhood education.
  • To investigate what democracy looks like in a classroom.

Suitable for early learning child care professionals working with pre-school children, school age children, parents, instructors, students, and administrators.

Presenter: Sarah McCarthy. Sarah has a Bachelor of Science in Education and Training, a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Montessori (0-12 years), plus a certificate for Children with Special needs. She has been in the education field for over 15 years and has taught in Reggio, play-based and Montessori centres; recently being the Early Childhood Program Coordinator and Instructor at a private college in Vancouver.
