HEART-MIND WELL-BEING  Pre-Conference Workshop

Friday February 17, 2017

Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm          6 hours training

Fee: $80.00

Join us as we explore the Dalai Lama Center's HEART-MIND WELL-BEING framework and how to promote Heart-Mind well-being in children.

What is Heart-Mind well-being? Heart-Mind well-being refers to the balance between educating the mind and educating the heart.
While there is a great focus in our society on academic achievement, a growing body of research shows the positive impacts of developing our hearts – the way we relate to one another – and that social/emotional development helps to improve academic success.

This 6 hour workshop is suitable for parents, family child care providers, early learning child care professionals working with children of any age including children with extra support needs; community support professionals and others who care for and teach children.

Suitable for all early learning child care professionals working with children 0 to 12 years old.

Presenters:

Kareen Hudson is the Director of Programs and the Dalai Lama Center. As an experienced registered Social Worker with a deep¬ rooted history and commitment to the welfare of our children, Kareen draws from an extensive career within the BC not for profit, education and health sectors. Her role as founder and manager of the RSVP Program, an award winning and widely utilized Social Emotional Learning program in Vancouver schools,  allowed her first hand exposure to the tremendous value of educating children’s hearts.  Kareen is a founding board member at Stand Tall Education Center, a primary school in Kampala, Uganda, and also maintains a private counselling and consulting practice in Vancouver called Seedlings. Her greatest joys include parenting her wonderfully spirited daughter and gaining wisdom from the amazing people she meets while travelling the world.

Nora Mejia, B.Ed. & ECE. Nora is Westcoast’s Child Care Resource Centre Diversity Trainer and Training Program Coordinator. She plans, prepares and delivers professional development opportunities, workshops and courses for early learning and child care professionals, family child care providers and parents on a wide range of topics related to healthy child development and anti-bias education for young children.
