Keynote Session –  A Business Case for DEI - Maurice Smith

Diversity,Equity and inclusion is a hot trio of topics. Credit union stakeholders at every level are exploring the challenges and opportunities of DEI. Intuitively, many accept the premise that DEI is important. We need to know how to frame the subject and why it matters. In this session, we will examine how DEI can help credit unions be more effective.

Employer Risks, Rights, and Obligations in the Workplace - Carlos Molina - Back by Popular Demand!

 With changes in the workplace – such as legalization of drugs, dress code, self-expression, social media, and reasonable accommodations – employers must exercise caution. This session will examine the risks, rights, and obligations of employers and employees. It is critical that your HR professionals and managers understand the importance of appropriately addressing these topics to ensure all job candidates and employees are treated fairly and equitably without creating additional risk for the credit union.

General Session- The Ultimate Betrayal - Frank Drake

“As our population ages, so does the membership of many CUs.  Ageing members may become cognitively impaired, isolated, baffled by computer-driven banking practices and increasingly dependent on caretakers and family members.   At the same time, they can cling to 20^th-century conventions of personal privacy and a fierce desire to maintain their independence.   Result:  too many seniors become vulnerable to too-frequent financial exploitation.  Estimates are that only 1 in 44 incidents of financial abuse are officially documented.  Fully 90% of financial abusers of the elderly are not strangers; they are family members or “trusted others”.   What are earmarks of financial abuse?   What duty does the CU owe to the elderly or disabled member?  How is any duty best performed?  What about privacy restrictions and potential liability for mistakes?

Closing Keynote -  Take Off the Mask - Is Your Story Worth Telling

It’s been said that if you ask a man his occupation you will find out how he pays his bills, but if you ask a man his preoccupation then you will discover the passion of his life. Dan Meers has a rather unique occupation. For over 25 years he has paid his bills by working as “KC Wolf” the mascot of the Kansas City Chiefs. However, Dan’s preoccupation, what he is truly passionate about is encouraging others to strive for the best in life and to enjoy it each and every step along the way. Dan believes that your life is like a Coin. You can spend it anyway you wish but you will only get to spend it one time, so spend it wisely. During his presentation Dan shares some of the valuable lessons he’s learned during his long career as a professional mascot. Whether at home, work or in the community. Dan challenges his audience to live each day to the fullest by wisely investing their lives and not just spending them.
