Dr. Mendelson earned his medical degree from University of Oregon Medical School. He did his internship training at Tripler General Hospital, followed by residency in pediatrics at Fitzsimmons General Hospital.

For over 40 years, he practiced pediatrics with Pediatric Associates of the Northwest in Portland. Additionally, he served as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Emanuel Children’s Hospital as well as President of Portland Academy of Pediatrics and North Pacific Pediatric Society.

He was the first Chairperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Communication. He received numerous awards over his career, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oregon Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2009.

Dr. Mendelson is currently a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Oregon Health & Science University and a media spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also currently serves on the Executive Committee of the AAP’s Council on Communication and Media, as well as a Rater for the OHSU Multiple Mini Interviews since their inception four years ago.

Educational Need and Objectives:

1.  Many Pediatricians are not aware of the influence of screen time on their patients.

2. This presentation will attempt to fill some of those knowledge gaps.

3.  We will also discuss the impact we can have on our parents/patients to reduce negative screen time influences.
