Simple Steps for Starting Your Business (series)

SCORE's 6-workshop program gives you a practical overview of the fundamentalsrequired to start a small business. Proven practices. Sound advice. Experienced andsuccessful entrepreneurs themselves, our trained instructors will guide you throughthe first important steps.  Attend any or all of the six, 1.5-hour workshops over thecourse of a couple of months.

You'll gain:

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals you need to start a small business
  • Perspective from mentors who've been there and can see what you don't see
  • The peace of mind and confidence that come from knowing you've thought through everything

If you're a more experienced business owner, use the program as a back-to-basics refresher. You don't have to be a current or former SCORE client to participate.

Schedule:  Six Mondays from 5:00 - 6:30 pm.  March 11 - April 15, 2019

Session 1: Business Assessment and Goal Setting - Monday, March 11, 2019 @5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.   --Discover where your business has room for growth or improvement; then formulate a new set of goals.

Session 2: Marketing Your Business - Monday, March 18, 2019 @ 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.   --Maximize your customer reach and retention after building up your knowledge of social media and online marketing, public relations and advertising strategies, event marketing and cause marketing. Learn how to create Raving Fans; and evaluate your business and your team.

Session 3: Managing Your Time, Your People and Your Resources - Monday, March 25, 2019 @ 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.    --Knowing when you need to hire, when to outsource, and how to get the most out ofyour staff are the keys to good management. We discuss proven hiring and employeetraining practices, staff development and motivation for peak performance, bestpractices for using outside resources, and effective delegation and time management.

Session 4: Boost Your Sales - Monday, April 01, 2019 @ 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.   --A constant goal of every business owner is increasing sales. This workshop will helpyou identify strategies to do just that, by: expanding your distribution channels,building and motivating your sales team, benchmarking, and using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to manage and retain customers.

Session 5: Financial Management - Monday, April 08, 2019 @ 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.   --Using financial statements to manage your business. Working with trusted advisors. Using financial ratios. Managing risk, using cash flow forecasts, and funding your business' growth. Once you understand these fundamentals, you will make better decisions for your business.

Session 6: Managing Operations - Monday, April 15, 2019 @ 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m   --Learn to more effectively operate your business for profitability as we discuss:operations and company goals; identifying, managing and measuring critical operations; preparing for growth; key performance indicators and dashboards.
