Lakehill Preparatory School Environmental Summit 

Lakehill Preparatory School announces the third program in its Environmental Summit speaker series, a free symposium for individuals interested in environmental awareness and sustainability. The free event will be held at the LEED certified Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center at Lakehill's Roger L. Perry Campus, located at 7401 Ferguson Road.

The event, The Next 100 Years: The Legacy of Litter at White Rock Lake, will be held on Tuesday, April 5 and is co-sponsored by Legal Grounds. The event begins at 8:30 am with a light breakfast provided by Legal Grounds, networking, and time to visit with the many exhibitors showcasing their green products and services. The program begins at 9:00 am and will conclude at 10:30 am. The Environmental Science Center will remain open to attendees until 11:00 am for more networking and visiting with exhibitors.

The Next 100 Years: The Legacy of Litter at White Rock Lake
A lively, interactive panel discussion that features provocative photographs of debris created by human nature, contrasted with the natural beauty of White Rock Lake. The photographs are currently on display at the "Trashing Our Treasure" exhibit at the Bath House Cultural Center. Other pertinent issues to be discussed include details on litter impact research conducted by the nonprofit Shared Fuel and an update on proposed legislation in Austin that supports bottle recycling for plastics, aluminum, and glass. Questions from the audience are encouraged. Panelists include Annemarie Marek, BJ Ellis, and Patricia Leigh Allen.

 Annemarie Marek is president and a Board director of Shared FUEL, Inc., a nonprofit that she co-founded with two East Dallas neighbors.Shared FUEL stands for Shared Focus on Urban Environmental Leadership and has, as its guiding mission, the goal of igniting sustainable change among Dallas' inner city neighborhoods.  

 A lifelong advocate for education and sustainability, Annemarie earned her LEED ® AP from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2006, was named by D Magazine as one of the City of Dallas' top 13 eco advocates, and is the recipient of the Mayor's Environmental Excellence Award for her work as a "sustainopreneur." Annemarie adheres to the philosophy that we must all "reduce, reuse, recycle, and share."

 BJ Ellis is a White Rock Lake area resident and active community volunteer as well as an independent Shaklee distributor. Currently, she is coordinator of the "Trashing Our Treasure, Cameras with a Conscious," exhibit at the Bath House Cultural Center. The exhibit contrasts the area's natural beauty to the "unnatural predators" of plastic, Styrofoam, and other litter in the water and along the shoreline of the White Rock Lake habitat. 

 Patricia Allen lived for 24 years in North Dallas and Plano, while raising three children and working as a marketing coordinator. From 2006 to 2009, she served as a community planner for Manatee County, Florida, and returned to Dallas in 2010 to serve as Program Development and Research Consultant for Shared FUEL. Patricia is dedicated to ensuring environmental protection and promoting public health. 

 "We are thrilled with the response we have received to the Environmental Summit series," explained Lakehill Preparatory School Headmaster Roger Perry. "The level of commitment in east Dallas to improving our environment is overwhelming. The Environmental Summit is clearly doing what we hoped it would do - bringing people together to exchange information and learn from each other. We are excited to continue to offer this opportunity to the community."
