TECH TALK:

An Overview of Undersea Technologies 


On Tuesday 25 July, George McNamara, NUWC Division Newport Chief Development Officer, will discuss science, technology, and engineering topics that are relevant to work in the undersea domain. He will provide a broad overview of applications for defense, commercial, and academic sectors.

George McNamara’s career includes thirty-five years in numerous technical and managerial positions at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center spanning the entire development cycle, from basic research through acquisition and support. Currently he is supporting the Chief Technology Office and the Executive Director as the Chief Development Officer fostering discovery, promoting innovation, and initiating development of new programs. In this role, he expands the Center’s visibility into emerging and future technologies by continuously establishing collaborations with world class providers of technical solutions in academia, industry, and other foreign and domestic laboratories.  He served as the Executive Secretary of the Submarine Superiority Technology Assessment Group for the Chief of Naval Operations. As Science & Technology Department Head, he oversaw NUWC’s $30M portfolio in basic and applied research.  Past roles have included Systems Engineer for the development of the ADCAP Torpedo, Full Scale Development Program Manager for the AN/BSY-2 Combat System, Program Manager for the Low-Cost Wide Aperture Array Program, as well as Program Manager for the Virginia Advanced Sail. His educational degrees include Chemical Engineering from Tufts University, and National Security Management from the U.S. Naval War College.
