About the Instructor
Teresa A. May-Benson, ScD, OTR/L, FAOTA - Dr. May-Benson is the Executive Director the Spiral Foundation at OTA-Koomar Center as well as a practicing occupational therapist. She is a well-known lecturer and researcher on sensory integration theory and intervention. She has authored a number of book chapters and articles on praxis and sensory integration, and completed her doctoral dissertation on ideational praxis.
A Spiral Foundation Sensory Integration Treatment Intensive

Sunday January 18 - Thursday January 22, 2015
This unique five-day intensive is designed to help therapists further develop their expertise in sensory integration observational assessment and intervention. The course focus is on hands-on experience using specialized therapy equipment. Emphasis is on observational assessment, intervention planning, implementation, and analysis. Therapists work in pairs, assessing and treating one child, for three days throughout the week. After each session, ample time is given for in-depth discussion, analysis of interventions, and feedback from our experienced clinicians.
Daily lecture / discussion sessions and video presentations are geared towards participants' individual requests, and include topics such as developing the therapeutic relationship, facilitation of adaptive responses, clinical assessment of sensory modulation and discrimination, dyspraxia, development of a fidelity measure and goal attainment scaling for SI research, and SI for specific populations.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this course participants will:
- Be able to use suspended equipment for sensory integration intervention safely and appropriately to maximize children's adaptive responses.
- Be able to administer clinical observations of sensory integration and complete a clinical assessment of sensory modulation and discrimination to assess children for sensory integration problems.
- Be able to develop a therapeutic relationship to maximize the child's sensory integration intervention.
- Be able to provide sensory integration intervention under the mentorship of an experienced therapist.

Tuition: $1500
($750 initial application fee is due on registration, along with a resume and acceptance to course to hold your space; final payment of $750 is due two weeks prior to course)
NOTE: Cancellation Fees - The $750 initial fee will be refunded if you are not accepted into the course. Cancellations happening 2 weeks prior to the start day will incur a $75 processing fee. Cancellations occuring within 2 weeks of the course start day will incur a $150 cancellation fee.
