The Adult/Adolescent Sensory History is available now! 

The culmination of years of research and work, the Adult/Adolescent Sensory History, is designed as a self-report assessment of sensory and motor behaviors commonly observed in individuals with difficulties processing and integrating sensory information. The purpose of this assessment is to help identify adults and adolescents ages 13 to 95 who experience problems in sensory processing and integration as well as assist therapists in clinical reasoning when creating interventions for these individuals. Based on the conceptual model of sensory processing and sensory integration proposed by A. Jean Ayres, this measure is designed to identify difficulties in five key areas of functioning: Sensory Discrimination, Sensory Modulation, Postural-Ocular Skills, Praxis, and Social-Emotional Functioning.

Webinars are online presentations geared towards professionals. Participants who call in live have the opportunity to participate in a question/answer session with the speaker. All registrants, regardless of live attendance, receive a download of the recorded webinar following the presentation.

Many therapists today who use a sensory integration-based intervention approach travel from one work setting to another.  This may include school therapists, those working in early intervention or in private practice. Therapists frequently need to transport equipment from one work setting to another in order to provide the services they would like. What equipment should therapists have available?  What tools are readily transportable yet be useful for sensory integration-based intervention?  This webinar will provide therapists with equipment and activity ideas that are essential materials to be “in the bag” or “in the car” for every traveling therapist who wants to use a sensory-based approach to intervention.   

Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar participants will be able to:

  1. Identify 5 essential pieces of equipment to treat sensory needs which may be carried “in the bag” by therapists.
  2. List at least 5 sensory-based activities which can be implemented using transportable equipment.
  3. Describe 3 ways to creatively use existing space and materials to promote sensory integration-based intervention.
Teresa A. May-Benson, Sc.D., OTR/L, FAOTA, Executive Director of the Spiral Foundation, is a well-known lecturer and researcher on sensory integration.  She has authored numerous book chapters and articles on praxis, ideation, and sensory integration and is a co-collaborator on development of the SAFE PLACE Program.  She has extensive experience with children and adults with autism and a diverse clinical background having worked in private and public school settings as well as private practice.  She is past Chairperson of the Sensory Integration Special Interest Section of the American Occupational Therapy Association.  She is the recipient of the Virginia Scardinia Award of Excellence from AOTF, The Alice S. Bachman Award from Pediatric Therapy Network, and the Catherine Trombly Award from the Massachusetts Association of Occupational Therapy. Most recently, Dr. May-Benson presented at the MEDA Conference in Newton, Massachusetts; her presentation focused on occupational therapy assessment and treatment that takes into consideration the sensory, motor and psychosocial components related to individuals with ARFID.
