The transition from living with family to living independently can be stressful for everyone involved. Families struggle with knowing when the planning process should start, choosing the best housing option, making independent living affordable, addressing the young adult's healthcare and independent living needs, and identifying people who can help with the process. Parents wonder...will we sleep at night? This interactive presentation answers these questions and more.
Speakers Diane Dressler, MCDD Program Director for Adult Training and Services at Kennedy Krieger Institute, and Mary Scott, Transition Resource Teacher for Baltimore County Schools and mom who will share her personal experience with this topic, give professionals, parents and youth an overview of issues surrounding maintenance of health insurance coverage, understanding health conditions, rental information, home ownership affordability, home modifications, housing search techniques and much more.
Light refreshments provided.
