Footwear and Tire Evidence Training Program 

 

The Saint Paul Police Professional Development Institute (PDI) is sponsoring a 6-week / 6 Session Course with Dwane S. Hilderbrand, Matthew D. Schwarz as the Instructors.

 Times:                0800-1700 (Mostly) 

 

 Course Cost for Sessions 1-6 - $585.00 each or $2,699.00 for all 6

1)       Documentation, Collection and Preservation of Track Evidence:  July 15-19, 2013

Students will be assigned a project that they will need to complete by October 21.  Students will       participate in a mock trial after that date. Students will need to bring a Camera, Tri-pod and Flash.           COMPLETED

2)       Examination and Comparison of Footwear Evidence:  August 26-30, 2013

Students will be assigned case work between Session 2 and Session 3.  Students are encouraged to bring a Laptop.                                                                                                                           

3)       Examination and Comparison of Tires, Tire Treads, and Tire Tracks:  October 21-25, 2013

Students will work tire cases during this Session.  Students are encouraged to bring a Laptop.

4)       Footwear and Tire Casework:   December 2-6, 2013

Students will spend the week working cases and having them technically reviewed.

5)       Daubert and Courtroom Testimony:  January 6-10, 2014

Students will testify in mock trials involving the case that was assigned to them within the first few Sessions of this course.

6)       Winter Crime Scene Footwear and Tire Casting:  Winter 2014

There will be a classroom to warm up in and have short discussions, the rest of the time will be outside doing actual hands on practical application of the methods.  Student should dress very warm and plan on being outside approximately 6 hours out of each day.  This will have to be scheduled when the weather is cooperating and with short notice.  This is a bonus class offered to include the different issues faced with snow, ice and cold that other parts of the country don’t have to worry about.  Students will need to bring a Camera, Tri-pod and Flash.
