2017 Podiatric Medical Assistants Programs

and Rad Tech Certification

Educational programs for Podiatric Medical Assistants, the Virginia Rad Tech Certification Course will be held in conjunction with the VPMA’s Summer Scientific Seminar, May 5-7, 2017.   All courses will be held at The Richmond Marriott Downtown.

The Richmond Marriott Downtown is located at 500 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA  23219.  To make your reservations, call 800/228-9290 0r 804/643-3400. Let Reservations know that you're with the VPMA to receive the group rate of $164 plus taxes and fees per night.  The deadline to reserve a room at the group rate is Friday, April 14, 2017 or when the block is sold out.

On Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6, twelve hours of continuing education for Podiatric Medical Assistants and Rad Techs will be offered. Lynn Homisak, RTR, will join us from SOS Healthcare Management Solutions to provide the Podiatric Medical Assistants Program.   Lynn has all new offerings this year.  Ms. Homisak has been with us before and brings a wealth of experience dealing with patients, improving the flow of the podiatric medical office, and self-improvement. One hour of OSHA and one hour of HIPAA training will be included, in addition to programs for back office staff.  Latraya Boone, Bako Integrated Physician Services will provide a clinical program.  We are looking forward to all new programs; details to follow! This 12-hour course will fulfill the requirements for those renewing Rad Tech-limited licenses with the Virginia Board of Medicine.

The Virginia Board of Medicine requires that any individual, other than the doctor, performing X-rays must be certified and licensed. In order to fulfill this requirement, the VPMA offers the Virginia Rad Tech Certification Course twice each year.

The Rad Tech Certification Course will be held on Friday, May 5, followed by the examination on Saturday, May 6. This course will be taught by Blake Zobell, DPM, who designed the course. Fees for the course include electronic access to the study manual, the course, and examination.

After registering for the Rad Tech Certification Course, participants will be sent a weblink to the study manual and Log Sheets  with the study manual and log sheets. The study manual covers information from terminology and anatomy to film handling and processing. We are no longer printing and mailing study manuals.

It is very important to carefully review the manual prior to attending the course and taking the examination. Those participants who have spent time reviewing the material, have a basic knowledge of foot and ankle anatomy, and have taken assisted X-rays in their doctor’s office typically perform better on the examination. Please register early to allow plenty of study time!

Along with study manual, participants will be provided with Log Sheets with which to log assisted X-rays. Twenty foot views and twenty ankle views must be logged prior to completion. It is not necessary to take all 40 views prior to the course and examination, however, the Log Sheets are a required part of certification and must be provided to Dr. Zobell or the Executive Director in order to complete the certification process.

Fees for Podiatric Medical Assistants Program and Rad Tech Certificaton include continental breakfast on Friday and Saturday, buffet lunch and cocktail reception on Friday only, and refreshment breaks.

Confirmations will be sent to attendees via email. Please provide an accurate and unique email address for each attendee.

Contact me directly at the VPMA office at 877/406-8762 with questions.

Sincerely,

Jean
