After Betty Friedan, women were able to articulate their position in society more clearly. Whether you bought your copy in 1963, inherited your mother’s copy or have never read a copy, the publication of The Feminine Mystique 50 years ago marked a turning point: before Friedan, after Friedan.

This seminar invites you to identify and write the ‘turning points’ in your own life. We’ll start the day with questions only you can answer and we'll take time to write our responses, working in solitude but not alone.  During the day, we’ll listen to your words as well as learn from women whose published memoirs have painted a portrait of women’s lives ‘in our time’. The portrait isn't finished until you've written your version. Your story is essential! Come and add your voice.

Bio: As the owner of Saga Seminars (www.sagaseminars.com), Eunice Scarfe has taught women writers since finishing graduate work at the U of Chicago and the U of Alberta. She is an award-winning short story writer (winner of Short Fiction prizes from UBC’sPrism International and the U of Alaska) and her fiction has been published widely in anthologies and literary magazines such asBest Stories in Canada and the Malahat Review. Her writing has been supported by grants from Canada Council as well as by residencies at Chateau Lavigny and the Banff Centre. She helped design the first Women and Words Summer Writing Program at the U of Alberta, now celebrating its 20^th year. Eunice has taught for the International Women’s Writing Guild since 1995 and has great respect for women whose creativity requires a writing life. She lives on Vancouver Island in Victoria BC, once again in sight of the Olympic Mountains that frame the city of Seattle where she grew up.
