Deep Green Faith Webinar:
All the World in a Single Ray of Light: Benedictine Spirituality and Creation Care

Since the 6th century, the Rule of St. Benedict has served as a guide for a holistic and communal living of the Gospel. How can the Benedictine values of deep listening, stability, hospitality, simplicity, and humility expand and enliven our understanding and practice of creation care?

In this Deep Green Faith webinar, the third in the Spring series offered by the Center for Religion and Environment and the University of the South (Sewanee),  Sister Elizabeth Carrillo, OSB will present and lead conversation about the relevance of Benedictine monastic spirituality for holistic, reverent care of creation. She will help participants appreciate that this ancient wisdom is for everyone, not just for monastics.

Sister Elizabeth Carrillo, OSB is a member of the Benedictine monastery of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kan. She has bachelor’s degrees in music performance from Boston University and in theology and secondary education (natural science) from Benedictine College. She is currently earning a master’s degree in Religion and Environment at the School of Theology in Sewanee, Tenn. and a certificate in Contemplation and Care for Creation through the Center for Religion and Environment. She is also a member of her monastic community’s Wangari Maathai Committee which offers spiritual and educational programs centering on creation care and environmental sustainability.
