About Our Presenters

Elise Artelt, LMFT  received her Med. from Penn State University and her MS in counseling psychology from Chestnut Hill College.  She has worked in community mental health centers for 20 years; as part of her job, she has been assigned to various schools as a Student Assistance Program counselor doing individual and group counseling.  This has given her the opportunity to work with hundreds of stepchildren over the years.  Her interest in stepfamily work began with her experience as a step-grandchild, and then as a stepmother with three stepchildren.  She also has a daughter, Maya.  Now her family includes four step-grandchildren as well.  Ms. Artelt has a private practice in Wayne, Pennsylvania, specializing in therapy with stepfamilies, couples and women.

Dr. Scott W. Browning, Ph.D.  is a professor in the Department of Professional Psychology at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia.  He is a noted authority on psychological treatment with stepfamilies.  As a scholar, teacher and clinician, Scott has explored the intricacies of treating stepfamilies, and has provided advanced training in the treatment of stepfamilies to clinicians and graduate students both nationally and abroad.  He is the author of numerous chapters and articles on the topics of: stepfamilies, empathy, c o-dependency, Strategic Family Therapy, autism and family therapy training practices.  He is the co-author (with Elise Artelt) of the book from APA Books, "Stepfamily Therapy: A Subsystems-Based Approach" (2012).
