Breaking through the shame and stigma of substance abuse is challenge for families and for therapists who want to help them. The disorders of substance abuse are common, costly, and challenging to understand and treat. All of this leads to the denial of disease and resistance to treatment that are hallmarks of these conditions in the individuals who suffer from them and often in their family and social systems. In this workshop we will address the systemic issues in families struggling with addiction, the role of the family in treatment and how therapy can be part of the recovery process.
In the afternoon session, Bill will be joined by be a panel of individuals who are both professionals in the field of addiction and recovery and who have personal experience with addiction and recovery in their families.
