UCR Palm Desert and the Palm Springs International Film Society are pleased to present a special 80th anniversary screening of the 1937 film A STAR IS BORN. Directed by William Wellman, the film was nominated for seven Oscars.
The film was the first contemporary drama shot in color. It was one of the biggest-grossing pictures of the year and it’s power has led to three remakes, the Judy Garland musical version in 1954, Barbara Streisand’s in 1976, and now, in 2017, a third version directed by and starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
William Wellman, Jr. will tell the full story of the creation of this classic project following the screening.
