The 7th Sharon Library Free Chess Tournament
The Sharon Library Free Chess Tournament is a free scholastic chess tournament for children in grades K-12. Trophies awarded to the top players in each section. NOTE: We are limited in space for this event. It is necessary for each player to pre-register online in order to participate. USCF membership required for players in rated sections. NOTE: If playing in a rated section USCF membership must be current by February 3. 2023.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three players in each section.
Sections may be combined or split at the discretion of the tournament director. This is a 4-round tournament, but a small section may have to play 3. Full-point byes may apply in sections with an odd number of players, and ½ point byes are available in any round pending early notification to the tournament director. Please bring a chess clock if you own one.
Everyone plays all 4 rounds unless given a bye.
1/2-point bye available in any round, but must notify organizer in advance. Bring chess clock if you have one.
REGISTRATION: This tournament is sponsored by the Southeast New England Chess Association and the Sharon Public Library. This is a scholastic event for children up to grade 12. Since there is limited space, you must register online prior to the event. There is no guarantee of participation unless you successfully preregister. Online registration closes on February 3, 2023, or when we hit capacity for the venue (for this venue, that is 50 participants).
THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS TOURNAMENT We do require that you register ahead of time. On site check in for those who registered online is 9:30 AM to 9:45 AM. Those who do not check in by 9:45 AM may be withdrawn from the tournament. Round 1 starts at 10:00 AM. Others on completion of each round. Novice and Unrated sections may finish in the early afternoon around 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. Open and U700 sections should end around 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM.
Sharon Library Parking:
- There is 3-hour street parking along the front and side of the building.
- Library users may park in the lot behind the First Congregational Church on High Street, across from the side of the Library. Note: Use this lot in icy weather.
- There is a municipal lot behind the library; the entrance is off Post Office Square.
